Game Overview
The Wizards’ Duel is a turn-based strategy card game designed for three players in a 1v1v1 free-for-all format. Players take on the roles of powerful wizards battling to claim the Crown of Ancient Knowledge in a mystical realm called NoWhere. The game is played on a 13×13 grid-based board, where players strategically move, cast spells, and utilize magical items to gain points and defeat opponents. The first player to reach 20 points emerges victorious.
Project Summary
This project was developed by a four-person team with no designated team lead. The goal was to design a strategic multiplayer card game without limitations on mechanics, card quantity, or content variety. Our workflow was structured around weekly meetings to track progress and assign upcoming tasks.
My primary responsibility was to design the game board and card system, ensuring that the map layout encouraged strategic movement and interaction. In contrast, the card mechanics balanced offence, defence, and special abilities.
The entire team worked together to refine the gameplay mechanics through iterative playtesting sessions within and outside the team, with the following procedure, the team finished a polished and engaging card board game:
- Collaborated on initial game concept discussions, ensuring a solid core gameplay structure.
- Designed the 13×13 board layout, placing key locations like spawn points, event zones, and shops to create dynamic decision-making opportunities.
- Developed and balanced magic cards, item cards, and event cards, defining their effects and interactions.
- Participated in team-wide playtesting sessions, analyzing game flow, balance, and pacing.
- Contributed to ongoing rule adjustments based on feedback, refining the action economy, point system, and respawn mechanics.
As a result, the team successfully created a fully functional 1v1v1 turn-based strategy game, integrating movement, resource management, and tactical combat. Achieved a well-balanced final version that encouraged both aggression and adaptability, making it an engaging and replayable competitive game.
