Change the Channel

Game Overview

Change the Channel is a fast-paced arcade microgame developed in a 4-day Game Jam with the theme “Microgame”. The game challenges players to adjust an old TV’s antenna to the correct angle within 30 seconds to watch and listen to different TV programs.

  • Players start with a static-filled screen and must use directional inputs or a joystick to fine-tune the antenna. As they approach the correct angle, the image becomes clearer, and static noise transitions into proper audio.
  • Once a channel is fully visible, players can hit the TV to switch to a new channel, resetting the static and continuing the loop.
  • Successfully tuning in to at least three programs within the time limit results in victory, while failing to do so leads to a different ending animation.

My roles:

  • Created 2D animations and sound effects for one of the TV programs.
  • Converted all team members’ 2D artwork into in-game animations and implemented the corresponding audio configurations.
  • Modeled and textured all in-game environments except for the TV itself.
  • Developed and animated the 3D hand interaction system for knocking on the TV to switch channels, including all related programming.
  • Collaborated on game mechanics and progression balancing to ensure an engaging, time-sensitive gameplay experience.

As a result, our team successfully delivered a fun and engaging arcade microgame, with showcase feedback praising its intensity, humour, and the excitement of discovering unexpected TV programs. The time limit added a thrilling challenge, while the variety of quirky channels kept players entertained and eager to see more.
